A dictionary of Kirati language, titled ‘Bantawa Sabdhakosh’ (Bantawa Dictionary) has been officially launched in the capital. The dictionary was made public by former chancellor of the Nepal Academy Bairagi Kainla, chairman of the Bantawa Dictionary and Grammar Construction Committee Kul Bahadur Rai, and Yuvaraj Rai of Kirat Rai Yo-Yokkha.
The ‘Bantawa Dictionary’ is available in Bantawa-Nepali-English languages, catering to a diverse audience.
Published based on linguistic science, the dictionary includes entries in Bantawa, alongside IPA pronunciation guide, as well as translation in Nepali and English. It is divided into three sections: Bantawa-Nepali-English, Nepali-Bantawa, and English-Bantawa. Editor Padma Kumar Rai announced that the dictionary is based on the script and writing style of the Bantawa language.
The Bantawa Dictionary contains 14,093 original word entries, which has 1,185 Bantawa and Nepali translations along with examples. Additionally, it features 78 Bantawa cultural and illustrative images. Priced at 1,000 rupees for the 714-page volume, this dictionary promises to be an invaluable resource for language enthusiasts and scholars alike.
