Writer Chandra Prakash Baniya’s new historical fiction Tuluraja is out in the market. After his successful historical fiction Maharani (2019) that bagged the Madan Puraskar, Baniya’s latest book is expected to mark another significant contribution to Nepali historical fiction.
As a historical novel, Tuluraja recounts the revolt by the Magar community of the Rahugau–Prashrawan region in northern Myagdi district against the Gorkha regime in the month of Shrawan, 1897 BS. The novel vividly portrays the subsequent massacre and the military invasion carried out by the Gorkhali army. Through a rich narrative, Tuluraja delves into a two-day-long fierce battle, exploring its causes, consequences, and the deep social and political impacts it left behind. The novel is based on extensive historical research and reflects Baniya’s deep awareness of Nepali history and society.
Published by Shikha Books, Tuluraja spans 440 pages and is priced at NPR 795.
