Chaitanya Adhikari
For a Whole Day
Keeping a staunch devotee in his seat,
God wants to come out of the temple
And wander around a park.
He wants to eat an ice cream
And ride a swing.
When he sees the children
Learning to ride a bicycle,
He can’t contain his excitement.
“How does Thukpa taste?” he asks.
No one has ever offered him
Grilled corn and chilli pickle.
Sitting on green grass under the sunshine—
It would be great!
Munching on a long sugarcane
Or a whole cucumber!
How does it feel to peel a pomelo,
Or crush a groundnut with your hand? he wonders.
Fly a kite,
Or run with a balloon,
Ride a roller coaster…
Chase a cute dog or mimic a bird…!
His wishlist continues.
And tired at the end,
After so much fun and play,
God wants to sleep longer
The next morning—
Without any disturbances!
