Nepali film industry, which has been referred to as ‘Kollywood,’ will now be renamed ‘Cinemandu.’ The decision to name Nepalli film industry ‘Cinemandu’ was unanimously taken during a meeting of film-related organizations held at the Film Development Board, according to Nawal Khadka, President of the Nepal Film Producers Association.
Khadka mentioned, “Three names were suggested during the discussion, but ‘Cinemandu’ was agreed upon unanimously. It was also decided to celebrate Ashoj 15 as the National Day.” He added that there was a consensus on the name ‘Cinemandu,’ and the board is preparing to call a meeting soon to approve it.
The meeting included representatives from the Film Producers Association, the Film Association, the Indigenous Film Association, and others who signed the agreement on the name.
The name will now be sent to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The ministry will present this name at a cabinet meeting. Once the cabinet meeting approves it, the official name of the Nepali film sector will be ‘Cinemandu.’
