The 143rd birth anniversary of Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha was observed on Wednesday at the premises of Nepal Academy. The event, co-organized by the Nepal Academy and the Yugakavi Siddhicharan Foundation, included a garlanding ceremony at the statue of Yugakavi Shrestha and a discussion on his contributions to Nepali literature. The discussion focused on the late Shrestha’s creative and revolutionary contributions to Nepali literature. A tribute was also paid to his second daughter, Sarita Shrestha Khaigoli, who passed away at the age of 78, and condolences were expressed to the grieving family.
During the program, Chancellor of the Academy Bhupal Rai described Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha as a successful figure in advancing revolution, struggle, and multilingual poetry in Nepali literature against the autocratic Rana regime.
Vice Chancellor of the Academy Bimal Krishna Shrestha ‘Bimal Nibha’ shared his views on the contemporary awareness and impact found in Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha’s poems. The program also featured discussions about poet Shrestha by member secretary of the Foundation Dr. Dhan Prasad Subedi, Dr. Phanindra Raj Niroula, Prof. Bishwanath Bhandari, Vice President of the Yugakavi Siddhicharan Foundation Prof. Mohan Lohani, and member of the Academy’s academic council Chetanath Dhamala, among others.
