The 10th Environment Literature Symposium is set to take place on May 31 (Jestha 17) at the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu. The event is being organized by the Nepali Eco Literature Foundation in collaboration with Sahitya Post.
The symposium aims to spread awareness about environmental conservation and highlight its importance in literature.
During the event, a poetry collection titled “Malai Aryaghat Lager Najalaunu” (Don’t Take Me to Aryaghat for Cremation), written by Bijay Hitan, will be launched. Alongside this, Nepal’s first-ever environmental essay collection—featuring 32 selected essays from a competition of 108 entries—will also be unveiled. The collection has been published by Shabda Media Pvt. Ltd., the parent organization of Sahitya Post. According to the organizers, the launch of these two books will be the main highlight of the symposium.
Winners of the essay competition—first, second, and third place—will be honored with awards and recognition. The remaining 29 selected essayists will also be felicitated, underscoring the importance of essay writing in environmental awareness.
The event will feature literary figure Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi as the chief guest, with senior writer and Gyan Bahadur Kshetri as the special guest. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai will deliver the keynote speech, while Dr. Geeta Tripathi and Dr. Ashok Thapa will present their views as speakers. The symposium is being coordinated by poet Bijay Hitann, the president of the foundation.
